Southern Road Trip - Part III

We headed south through more of Namibia's stunning scenery. We got to the Gondwana park and had some fun on the gravel roads, especially the rocky and corrugated sections which make you bounce all over the place, I also had to tackle quite a big hill up and down and held my breath for a lot of that.

We arrived to the /Ai-/Ais resort which is right in Fish River Canyon itself. /Ai-/Ais Hot Springs meaning 'burning water' in the local Nama language, refers to the sulphurous thermal hot water springs found in the area. Mum was convinced the translation of /Ai-Ais had something to do with the noise you make as you put your toes into boiling hot springwater....

AiiiiiAiiiiiiis!

As the resort was quite over booked we ended up with a family chalet...

My room.

Kitchen diner.

Living room.

Hot tub - when you switched it on though the mains fuse in the whole house as we found out!

The sides of the canyon.

The rusty pipe the hot springs water comes from.

The hot spring,

Had to dip my fingers in - not nearly soooooo hot.

We went for a walk in the canyon for a couple of hours before it got too hot,

And we relaxed in the hot springs mineral bath.

We then drove on to our next destination- the Roadhouse hotel via the viewpoints of Fish River Canyon.

Not too close to the edge now!

Yes, I could try that, just shy of a weeks walk 90kms through the canyon, awesome.

Oh hell, is that how you get down there? no thanks, give me the whole walk in the burning sun over that climb down!!

"Vertigo is the conflict between the fear of falling and the desire to fall." - Salman Rushdie

The day before the moon was closest to the earth - pretty close here though also.

We stayed at the Roadhouse, which is like an American diner with cars all over the place - v funky for Namibia.

Off we go again to Klein Aus Vista, Kolmanskop and more.....

Watch out for the babies on the road!!
